The Chaos and the Calling: Why Real Change Starts Within

It’s been a while since I last wrote or even shared anything. Partly because it feels like the world is already overflowing with opinions, content, and noise. Everyone has something to say, and yet, in all of it, it’s easy to lose the sound of your own inner voice.
We’re living in a fascinating time. Chaotic, yes. Unsettling at times. But also, if I’m honest, something I feel strangely grateful to be part of. Because the more I observe what’s happening around us, the more I see that there is reason in the madness.
The chaos itself isn’t new. War, corruption, broken systems - these have always existed. What’s different now is visibility. More is being revealed. More people are starting to notice.
And when you start to see differently, you can’t unsee it.
For so long, many of us lived in rhythms that kept us comfortable but distracted, moving through routines without really questioning them. Life becomes about maintenance, not meaning.
But something is shifting. The chaos we’re witnessing isn’t separate from us. It’s what happens when a world that has been asleep begins to wake up.

Looking Beyond the Surface
You might feel it too, that sense that something isn’t quite right. That many of the systems we rely on weren’t necessarily built on truth or long-term thinking.
Yet most conversations stay on the surface. We debate headlines, policies, personalities. But rarely do we pause and ask: What’s actually sitting underneath all of this?
I recently attended a conference about “changing systems.” It was interesting but also telling. There was a lot of talk about transformation, but very little about how real change actually happens.
Because here’s the truth:
We can’t change systems using the same thinking that created them.
Real change doesn’t come from tweaking the surface. It requires something deeper. A shift in awareness. A different way of seeing, thinking, and being. And this is where it gets uncomfortable, because it brings the focus back to us.
The System Within
One of the biggest realisations I’ve had is this:
We are systems too.
Each of us carries patterns, beliefs, habits, and unconscious ways of operating that shape how we move through the world. So, when we talk about changing systems “out there,” we often overlook the most immediate system we have influence over - ourselves.
If we don’t understand how to shift our own internal patterns, how can we expect to meaningfully shift anything larger? Transformation, whether personal, organisational, or societal, starts here.
Not in policy. Not in theory. But in awareness.
Most of what drives us isn’t conscious. Our reactions, our internal dialogue, the stories we tell ourselves - they quietly shape our decisions and, ultimately, our reality.
So the work begins with noticing.
Noticing your patterns. Your triggers. Your default ways of thinking.
And then, gently, choosing differently.
That’s where real change begins.
Staying Grounded in the Chaos
The world right now can feel overwhelming. Constant information. Constant urgency. Systems that don’t always make sense.
But if we become too consumed by the external chaos, we lose sight of what actually matters.
The real work doesn’t start out there.
It starts in here.
In how we show up. How we speak. How we treat people.
Living in a state of love and awareness doesn’t mean ignoring what’s happening. It means not letting it pull us away from our humanity.
It means choosing presence, even when things feel uncertain. Choosing kindness, even when it’s easier not to. Choosing awareness, again and again.
Especially when the world feels chaotic.

A Different Way Forward
The time we’re living in isn’t just chaotic; it’s calling something forward in us.
An invitation to wake up. To question. To take responsibility for the systems we participate in and the ones we help create.
When we do that inner work, when we become aware of how we think and why, we begin to respond differently.
We stop reacting to noise. And start acting with intention.
From that place, change isn’t forced. It becomes natural.
Because when individuals shift, systems shift.
A Final Word
So as the world grows louder, my reminder is simple:
Don’t get lost in the distraction.
Remember where the real work happens.
It isn’t out there.
It’s in here.
And perhaps that’s the deeper calling within the chaos.
Dedicated with love to Jeni. Your passing was a quiet reminder that love is what truly matters. May we all remember to live from that place as often as we can. 🤍
Much love,
Bec x
